Maplestory what happens if a scroll fails

Based on the server, different rates are applied. Meso cost is rounded off to the nearest hundreds. Equip Level is rounded down to the nearest 10 levels. Arcane has same cost as Fafnir. CMS does not use mesos for star force enhancement, but an untradeable item named "Star" for star force enhancement. This section shows the stats increase by star force enhancement, which is why it is strongly encouraged since it is fairly cheap. Scaled stats increment based on proportion of item stat excluding Bonus Stats are updated spontaneously when there is a change in stats due to scrolls , so the enhancement sequence will not affect the end state of an equipment.

For convenience, the total stats gained from enhancement will be listed below. Scaled stats are not shown. For weapons, a consolidated table has been complied here. Similar to Normal equips but the rates are different from Normal equips. However the stat gained is tremendous.

However, it can still protect destruction from equip enhancement scrolls. Meso Cost for all stars for the same equipment is the same. Table excludes non-damage stats. Before each attempt, you will play a Star Catcher minigame where a star will move from left to right, then right to left, repeating its cycle.

Press the "Stop" button or press "Spacebar" to stop the star from moving. You can cancel this minigame by ticking "Cancel Star Catcher" but the success rate boost will not be applied but you get to enhance way faster does not mean you will save time in the long run though, since you are slightly more likely to fail enhancements and decrease stars.

Cancelling star catcher also constitutes as failing a star catch and it will increase its difficulty if you decided not to skip star catcher after many attempts. If your equipment decrease stars twice in a row , you enter this special state called Chance Time. Effect will be gone if you either utilised it, did not enhance within 5 minutes, or enhanced another equipment. When you destroy your equipment due to failure in star force enhancements, the equipment will leave a trace.

Equipment traces are only given for destroying due to star force enhancement attempts only. Destruction due to other means will not give any traces so your equipment will be lost forever. Based on current equipped Star Force excluding medal and title , HP given is based on tiers. If you changed tiers, the HP difference for earlier stars will be compensated. Overall stars are double counted. Namespaces Page Discussion.

The player can buy them from some NPCs , they can drop from monsters , the player can earn them as rewards for quests , buy them from other players, or even get some ultra powerful, limited availability scrolls from events! It will not work on a one handed sword, or a two handed mace.

In general, the lower the success rate of the scroll, the higher the stat gains it will yield, but this is not always the case. When using a scroll, it is removed from the player's inventory regardless of whether it was successful or not. Some scrolls will destroy the player's item if they fail. They can drop from monsters, be bought from a variety of NPC shops in Maple World, are freely tradeable with other player, and are sometimes given out as event rewards.

Spell traces were introduced as a way to simplify the scrolling process. They are generic, and the same spell traces can be used to scroll any piece of equipment. The stat gains that are available from scrolling will change depending on what item the player is trying to scroll with spell traces. The lower the success rate, the higher the stat gains will be, and the more spell traces that are required per attempt. Unlike regular scrolls and Spell Traces, Chaos Scrolls give random stat boosts to the player's equipment.

But be careful, Chaos Scrolls can sometimes decrease the power of the player's equipment. Chaos Scrolls cannot add Attack or Magic attack to a piece of equipment that does not already have it. But if the player use a different scroll to first add at least 1 attack or magic attack to the item, a Chaos scroll and all of its equivalents will add or take away attack to that item.

Using chaos scrolls, it is possible to get very high attack or magic attack on equipment that would otherwise not have it. In addition to the regular upgrade slots available to equipment, the player can apply two Vicious Hammers to each piece of equipment.

A vicious hammer will add an additional upgrade slot to the player's weapon. When using either a scroll or spell traces, the player's equipment will lose 1 available upgrade slot regardless of whether the attempt was successful or not. A piece of equipment can be Star Force enhanced when it has no more upgrade slots available, however if the player use a Pure Clean Slate scroll to recover a failed upgrade slot the player must use that before the player can continue enhancing the player's equipment.

A piece of equipment can be enhanced with Star Force after all of its upgrade slots have been filled by paying a sum of mesos. Enhancing equipment further increases some stats on that equipment. A piece of equipment that is fully scrolled and fully enhanced can become very powerful. For most players, enhancing their gear is the second step in upgrading their gear.

If the player uses Star Force and fail to add a star to a piece of equipment twice in a row then the player enter Chance Time. Chance Time guarantees that the player's next Star Force attempt on that item will work. Scrolls are one way of upgrading equipment, they are found in the USE tab. Scrolls are the traditional way of upgrading equipment and can be done by double-clicking it and dragging it on to an item.

Most of regular scrolls nowadays are useless and have been replaced with an easier system called Spell Tracing which will be explained later. For now, Spell Tracing provides the same function as scrolling and is much easier to obtain than scrolls. Spell tracing involves using an item called "Spell Trace" to upgrade items instead of using scrolls. They also consume an upgrade slot upon success or fail. This is the main and most common way to upgrade equipment. You can open the Equipment Enchant menu by either pressing "O" by default or through your inventory by pressing the red button with a hammer.

Once you have opened the menu, you can drag a piece of equipment into it and start spell tracing. Spell tracing consumes a certain amount of spell traces to upgrade equipment. As well, the higher level gear will cost more Spell Traces. Star Forcing costs mesos that grants increased stats on success.

Like before, you can drag equipment into the Equipment Enchant UI like spell tracing to star force your gear. You can disable the mini game by pressing "Disable Star Catching". Another button you see is "Safeguard" which protects your item from being destroyed but increases the cost significantly. The optimal amount of stars you want for each piece of equipment is stars early game.

There are four possible outcomes when Star Forcing. The success and failure rates scale with the current Star Force level of the equipment. If two Star Force attempts in a row result in failure, the next attempt will enter Chance Time and have a guaranteed success rate.

Additionally, once a piece of equipment reaches 10, 15 and 20 Star Force respectively, they will not drop below that Star Force even if the attempt fails. If the equipment is destroyed while Star Forcing, you will gain an Equipment Trace.

Equipment Traces can be applied to a new copy of the same item to restore all the stats, potentials and enhancements.
